How big should a baby blanket be?

We had to chose to make something for my crafts class and the teacher i have for parenting told me that if i made a baby blanket, she would count it as a grade for my parenting class as well…kill 2 birds with one stone, right?

I am working on a patchwork, a bunch of different pieces of 3×3 (for instance, one piece is moons, stars, and clouds, but they are different pieces…its confusing. basically i am making a few different little patchwork blankets and putting them together with a silk ribbing and knitting underneath with something plush in the middle).

anway, I was wondering how big the blanket should be… ??? it’s sort of supposed to serve as a quilt sort of thing and a blanket blanket, like a comfort blanket, i guess…

if it is supposed to be for a newborn and older, what should the dimensions be???

thanks! :) ))

for the record, i have it where i have it because i wasn’t sure where else to put it and i figured a parent would know better than anyone else, right??? :) thanks again

I’m 13 years old and have had my period for like six months. At night, it gets everywhere! All over my favorite quilt I got when I was four, my stuffed animals from all over the world, books I fall asleep reading, my pajamas, everything! I’ve recently started laying on a towel and using extra pads, but even if it just gets on the towel – my blankets fall on the towel and I roll around on it in the night. How gross! I’m not ready for a tampon so I want to know if theres any other way to protect my things at night. Any advice would be wonderful. Thank you all for your time.
PEOPLE – I’m a normal flow. It’s not COVERING all of my belongings – its just staining them with red spots. My flow is normal and my period is only a week. Gosh.

First time quilter, I need help?

As far as sewing goes I am definitely a beginner, but as long as I have step by step directions of whateber I am doing I can sew it. I have sewed my daughter a few blankets and also a pillowcase dress. But I am ready for a bigger and better project. My cousin is due with her 1st baby in August, we are planning a shower for her the middle of July, which means I have a month and a half to complete my quilt. I wanted to make her a quilt because for one I just enjoy the being able to give somebody something that for one didn’t come form wal-mart and two they can cherish and know that it was handmade. I have read online a few on different sites but I have a few questions on some. What is a scant seam? If I want to make just a simple bock quilt made up of around 24 squares (I don’t have a pattern) How do I go about measuring how big my blocks need to be etc…? If someone could give me step by step instructions (quilting for dummies if you will) I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You
